     Joniškis

In Joniškis region there were very gifted artists. Vincas Uogela from Žiūriai village was honest and calm seller in Žagarė cooperative. He played the violin, sang in the church choir, and carved sculptures. His carved sculpture of a woman was displayed in an exhibition together with M. K. Čiurlionis paintings. President Antanas Smetona designated a land plot in Žiūriai as a prize. Vincas’ sculptures are not only in foundation of Šiauliai museum. His small carvings according to religious themes such as “Resurrection”, “Crucified”, are kept in the National Museum of Lithuania. It is believed that “Crucified”, which was in the chapel of the cemetery in Ivoriškiai, now is the republican folk art memorial and it is kept in the Art Museum of Lithuania. This is a Niūrančiai village work by folk artist Antanas Lengvianis (1850 - 1920).
