Aigars and Ivars Rurans

     Viesite


Aigars and Ivars Rurans are twin brothers. They were born in Viesite on 17 September  1975. They spent their child, hood and school-age years in the small town of Selonia. After graduation from secondary school, from 1993 to 1998 they studied in the Wood-working department of Daugavpils Art College ,,Saules skola“. They are grateful to the director of the Jekabpils art school, Ziedonis Blrbals, for his assistance and encouragement in learning the craft. At the Daugavpils art school, the brothers received di, plomas as wood-working designers and wood,working designer-group leaders. Until 2000, they studied at the Riga Technical University. In 2005, Aigars and lvars were awarded diplomas as masters of wooden sculpture. In 2004, the Rlrans brothers began work in Viesite and became the image-makers for their hometown. The broth, ers usually carve their works from oak. The wooden signs, sculptures, and figures of animals and fairy-tale characters they make are interesting and artful. Works by the Rfrans brothers can be found throughout Latvia (in Viesite, Dikfi, Sauka, Akniste, and Jekabpils). Two works by Ivars are exhibited in Lithuania - in the sculpture park in RokiSkis named for the wood sculptor Lionginas Sepka and at the RokiSkis Regional Museum. Cooperating and supplementing each other's work, the brothers create new, inimitable works that decorate parks, yards, and the areas around historical and cultural monuments.
