Ansis Vacietis is a member of the Latvian Chamber of Crafts, a member of the Folk Art Studio "Dzine“ Riga. A. Vacietis is especiaily good at small-scale plastic art. Although he had taken an interest in wood-carving starting in early childhood, he decided to study veterinary science instead. Even as he worked as a veterinarian, Ansis Vacietis in his free time learned the craft from the well-known Latvian wood-carvers Krišjantis Kurga and Voldemars Tiltinš. Ansis Vacietis considersLize Dzeguze, a famous Latvian wood-carver, to be his most important teacher. Ansis Vacietis focused on wood-carving only after retiring. For the most part, he carves figures of people, animals and birds and usually from the linden tree, which is his favourite material. He takes pleasure in giving the pieces of art as gifts to his friends and relatives. The works of Ansis Vacietis have been displayed in several exhibitions in Latvia. The sculptures he has created decorate his garden.
