Andris Donis is a wood-carver with more than 20 years of experience
creating wooden sculptures. He was born in 1947, in Jaunlutriņi in
Saldus district. He attended the Riga Applied Arts Secondary School,
and graduated from the Teodors Zalkalns State Academy of Arts (now
called the Art Academy of Latvia) with a degree in design. His first
wooden sculpture, "Rūkis - malkas cirtējs" (The Dwarf-Woodcutter), was
highly appreciated, and that encouraged Andris to continue his work
with wooden sculptures and the Tērvete Nature Park. Working in the
Park, he was responsible for building wooden bridges, staircases,
direction signs, information boards and so on. His wooden sculptures
decorate various parts of the Tērvete Nature Park, includng the
Fairy-tale Wood.
