International meeting of wood carvers and craftsmen in Rokiškis

     Rokiškis

From 13 to 19 September 2009, an international symposium of wood-carvers and artisans was held in Rokiškis. 3 artisans and 3 students from Latvia participated, as did 4 wood-carvers and an expert from Lithuania. The purpose of the symposium was to cultivate the oid traditions of wood-working crafts and to adapt them to contemporary conditions. It was decided to carve the family of Janis and Maryte with their children, animals, birds, and fences, and to settle them in the park of the RokiSkis Regional Museum next to the buildings of the homestead of a 19th century peasant. Thus was the international craft celebration organised.
