Competitive exhibitions for winning Lionginas Sepka premium
Rokiskis
d. municipality and Rokiskis area museum having a target to immortalize
remembrance of the most famous “Godmaker” of XX c. – Lionginas Sepka
(1907 – 1985) have been organizing republic competitive exhibitions of
wood whittlers for remembering Lionginas Sepka since 1994. These
competitive exhibitions are already starting to count the second
decade. This is a rear event in the cultural life of the republic.
Using finances of region municipality, work of area museum and support
of generous supporters, event has found its niche in Lithuanian culture.
Conditions for participating in the exhibition:
Lithuanian
wood whittlers participate in the exhibitions no matter whether they
are the members of Lithuanian folk artists union, or not.
Whittler has to bring not less than 5 and not more than 10 his works created during the last 2 years until the 6th of September.
Arts and crafts type whittlings are not acceptable for the exhibition.
Participator of the exhibition tenders his biography and picture.
Participation
right is also being given for laureates of previous Lionginas Sepka
premium since 2008, if not less than 5 years have passed from naming of
the laureate.
Next exhibition will take a place on the 15th of September 2012.

whittlers participated in the exhibition in 1994. The majority of
whittlers came from Birzai and Rokiskis –4, from Anyksciai and
Svencionys –2. Other regions have one artist each. Vanda Briediene from
Birzai d. and Robertas Matulionis from Vilnius became laureates. Ruta
Kavaliauskiene from Plunge, Algirdas Juskevicius from Varena, Juozas
Jakstas from Svencionys, Eglunas Zidonis from Utena became prizemen.

whittlers participated in the exhibition in 1995. 2 whittlers came from
Birzai, Kaunas, Utena, one came from other regions. Vilnius citizen
Ipolitas Uzkurnys became a laureate. Rimante Butkuve from Kaunas, Vidas
Jatulevicius from Birzai d., Antanas Jusevicius from Kaunas, Robertas
Zaliukas from Rokiskis d. became the prizemen.
17 authors with 138
works participated in the exhibition in 1996. 3 whittlers came from
Utena, 2 came from Birzai, Kupiskis and Silale. Antanas Jusevicius from
Kaunas became a laureate. Anele Araminiene from Utena d., Vidas
Jatulevicius from Birzai d., Juozas Kisunas from Vilnius, Henrikas
Orakauskas from Kupiskis, Leonas Perekslis from Kupiskis, Vytautas
Ulevicius from Kedainiai d. became prizemen.
Scientific
conference derived for 90th birth anniversary of Lioginas Sepka and
competitive exhibition took place in 1997. 28 whittlers with 240
whittlings of various thematic participated there. The majority of
whittlers came from Utena – 6, 3 - from Rokiskis, 2 - from Kupiskis.
Antanas Sergalis from Sakiai became a laureate. Tauras Cesnulevicius
from Druskininkai, Ricardas Palivonas from Rokiskis d., Leonas
Perekslis from Kupiskis, Arvydas Petrulis from Panevezys, Jonas
Tvardauskas from Anyksciai, Vanda Umbrasiene from Elektrenai, Henrikas
Zakarevicius from Utena became prizemen.
38 whittlers with 300 works
participated in exhibition in 1998. Even 7 whittlers came from Utena, 5
– from Silale, 3 – from Ignalina, Telsiai, Kupiskis, 2 – from Birzai,
Kaisiadorys, Rokiskis. Arvydas Petrulis from Panevezys became a
laureate. Anele Araminiene from Utena d., Feliksas Baronas from
Kupiskis, Pranas Duzinskas from Telsiai, Vytautas Jackunas from
Pasvalys, Vidas Jatulevicius from Birzai d., Petras Vytautas Kalpokas
from Kaunas, Saulius Lampickas from Alytus, Adolfas Teresius from
Kaunas d. became prizemen. Exhibition was visited by more than 3000
visitors.
22 whittlers participated in the exhibition in 1999.
The majority of whittlers came from Utena – 4, from Rokiskis,
Sirvintos, 3 – from Telsiai, 2 - from Marijampole. Venecijus Jocys from
Rokiskis d. and Zenonas Skinkys from Vilkaviskis became laureates.
Pranas Duzinskas from Telsiai d., Antanas Lubys from Kretinga, Cecilija
Mikulskiene from Mazeikiai, Eglunas Zidonis from Utena, Gintaras Varnas
from Rokiskis d., Egidijus Sologubas from Sirvintos, Venecijus Jocys
(prize of spectators) from Rokiskis d. became prizemen.
A record
number 39 of whittlers participated in 2000. More than 300 works were
tendered for the evaluation commission. Even 20 masters came to the
competition for the first time. 4 whittlers came from Utena, Skuodas,
Plunge, Telsiai and Kaunas, 3 – from Rokiskis, Kupiskis, Vilnius, 2 –
from Alytus, Radviliskis. The youngest participator of the exhibition –
11 years old Dovydas Teresius from Kaunas d., the oldest – Petras
Vytautas Kalpokas from Kaunas. He was 80 years old. Whole families
participated in competitive exhibition: Adolfas Teresius with 2 sons -
Augustinas and Dovydas, Petras Brazauskas with son Liudas, father
Edmundas and son Martynas Gaubai, family of Justinas and Regina
Jonusai. Saulius Lampickas from Alytus became a laureate. Jonas
Bugailiskis from Vilnius, Martynas Gaubas from Radviliskis, Edmundas
Gaubas from Radviliskis Regina Jonusiene from Plunge d., Justinas
Jonusas from Plunge, Vytautas Jackunas from Pasvalys, Venecijus Jocys
from Rokiskis d., Saulius Lampickas from Alytus, Justinas Sutkaitis
from Vilnius, Dovydas Teresius from Kaunas d. became prizemen.

Plunge – 5, from Sirvintos and Kaunas –3, 2 whittlers - from Rokiskis,
Telsiai, Mazeikiai, Radviliskis, Jonava. The oldest whittler Vincas
Zvingila (who was born in1913) from Vilkaviskis, the youngest –
brothers Dovydas (born in1989) and Augustinas Teresius (born in 1986)
from Kaunas d. and Laimis Kaziukonis (born in 1986) from Alytus.

Vilkaviskis became prizemen.
39 whittlers from 18 regions
participated in 2002. Most of them came from Plunge and Rokiskis - 5,
Birzai – 4, Jonava, Pasvalys, Utena –3, 2 - whittlers from Vilnius,
Kaunas, Kupiskis, one - from Ignalina, Alytus, Marijampole,
Elektrenai, Panevezys, Siauliai, Raseiniai and Mazeikiai. 10 whittlers
have come to competition for the first time. The oldest whittler –
Jakovas Bunka (born in 1923) from Plunge, the youngest – Alytus citizen
Laimis Kaziukonis (born in 1986), Mantas Medikis (born in 1986) and
Giedrius Ciziunas (born in 1987) from Rokiskis d. Pranas Duzinskas from
Telsiai d. became a laureate. Kestutis Krasauskas from Pasvalys d.,
Vytas Jaugela from Plunge d., Laimis Kaziukonis from Alytus, Gintaras
Gaidys from Raseiniai, Vytautas Jackunas from Pasvalys, Vanda
Umbrasiene from Elektrenai, Vidas Jatulevicius from Birzai d., Kazys
Striaupa from Plunge, Jonas Grunda from Ignalina, Gediminas Cerniauskas
from Plunge, Janina Listvina from Jonava, Anele Araminiene from Utena
d., Genadijus Mikuckis from Vilnius became prizemen.
35 whittlers
from 15 regions participated in 2003. Most of them came from Kaunas –
6, Plunge – 5, Marijampole – 4, from Jonava, Rokiskis, Kalvarija - 3
whittlers. 12 whittlers participated in the competitive exhibition for
the first time. The oldest whittler Regina Jonusiene (born in 1926)
from Plunge, and the youngest – Dovydas Teresius (born in 1989) from
Kaunas d. 215 works were tendered to exhibition. Ruta Kavaliauskiene
from Plunge became a laureate. Vidas Jatulevicius from Birzai d.,
Antanas Lastauskas from Marijampole d., Juozas Cepulis from Rokiskis,
Laimis Kaziukonis from Alytus, Kazys Striaupa from Plunge d., Jonas
Tvardauskas from Anyksciai, Regina Jonusiene from Plunge d., Vytas
Jaugela from Plunge d., Gediminas Mikuckis from Vilnius became prizemen.

whittlers from 13 regions participated in 2004. Most of them came from
Jonava – 3 whittlers, 2 - from Kupiskis, Rokiskis, Plunge and
Marijampole d. 7 whittlers participated in the competitive exhibition
for the first time. 150 works were tendered to the exhibition. Kazys
Striaupa from Plunge d. and Juozas Videika from Jurbarkas became
laureates. Saulius Nudas from Telsiai, Vytautas Jackunas from Pasvalys,
Juozas Cepulis from Rokiskis, Anele Araminiene from Utena d., Antanas
Lastauskas from Marijampole d., Alvydas Seibutis from Utena became
prizemen.
24 whittlers from various towns of Lithuania
participated in 2005. The oldest participator of the exhibition is
Antanas Kniuksta (born in 1922) from Telsiai d. Seven artists presented
their whittlings for the first time. About 200 works were tendered to
the exhibition. Vidas Jatulevicius from Birzai d. became a laureate.
Rimante Butkute from Birstonas, Juozas Cepulis from Rokiskis,
Stanislavas Janusas from Panevezys, Regina Jonusiene from Plunge d.,
Vytas Jaugela from Plunge d., Kazimieras Striaupa from Plunge d.,
Dovydas Teresius from Kaunas d., Vanda Umbrasiene from Elektrenai,
Adolfas Andriejus Valuckis from Kretinga, Edmundas Gaubas from
Radviliskis became prizemen.
23 masters from 14 regions
participated in 2006. 5 masters have participated in the exhibition for
the first time. About 150 works were tendered to the exhibition. Jonas
Tvardauskas from Anyksciai became a laureate. Algirdas Juskevicius from
Varena, Adolfas Andriejus Valuckis from Kretinga, Algirdas Vladislovas
Butkevicius from Birzai, Vytas Jaugela from Plunge d., Janina Listvina
from Jonava, Gintaras Varnas from Rokiskis, Antanas Lastauskas from
Kalvarija, Pranas Petronis from Vilnius became prizemen.
For the
100th anniversary of Lionginas Sepka in 2007 exhibition of Lionginas
Sepka premium laureates creative works took a place; commemoration in
cemetery of Lebedziai (Pandelys monitory); revelation of G. Varnas
sculpture “Life road of L. Sepka “ in Pandelys; visitation of places
remembering L. Sepka; celebratory conferment of Lionginas Sepka name
for Rokiskis town park; presentation of photo exhibition „Known and
unknown Lionginas Sepka“; presentation of book „Known and unknown
Lionginas Sepka“; literature composition „Seven suns“ of Panevezys J.
Miltinis drama theater (Eleonora Matulaite, Valerijus Jevsejevas).

tendered to the exhibition. 2 masters participated in the exhibition
for the first time. Saulius Lampickas from Alytus has became a laureate
for the second time. Antanas Lastauskas from Kalvarija, Anele

19 masters from 11 regions
participated in 2010. Ukmerge citizen Rimantas Zinkevicius, who
presented sculpture composition „Immortals of Lithuania’s millennium“
became a laureate. Exhibition of this year was marked with mature
works, finished compositions. 9 masters became prizemen of the
exhibition. Edmundas Gaubas got sympathies of spectators for admiring
size work „Zalgiris –Lithuanians returned“, Anele Araminiene was gifted
for sacral theme of the collection, Vitas Vasiliauskas styled unity,
Valentas Butkus for collection under ethnographic thematic and debut,
Pranas for monumentality of sculptures, Antanas Zatkevicius for debut,
Michail Jankovski for bas-relieves, Aleksandras Tarabilda for original
decisions in „Requiem“ collection.
