National economy exposition in Rokiskis area museum

Conception to establish national economy museum near to the ensemble of Rokiskis manor was implemented in 1959. This was the first national economy museum under the sky in Lithuania. This conception matured for economy culture was changing; steadings were under changing, the old traditional building was under denying as well as their building type. Rustic homestead buildings of XIX c. were moved to park of Rokiskis area museum from villages of east of Upper Lithuania for saving the peculiarity of national economy. There were plans to recreate a view of the old street village of Upper Lithuania here. Even the conception was not completely implemented seven various target buildings of rustic homestead were moved to the park.
The first building brought in 1959 from Kupiskis d. Gaigaliai vill. – granary built at the end of XIX c. Its lumber is gauche let into spaces. Construction made without sews and metal nails. Roof is span with arched small roofs in ends. Facade of granary has no gracing elements. Another one granary stands in park of Manor moved here in 1964 from Utena d. Varniskiai vill. Inventory of this granary is interesting and valuable: pot for making beer, little wooden pots for flour, seeders and kickers. Both granaries located in the park were restored in 2009 and now they are adjusted for expositions and education. Original loom stands in the first granary, here you will be trained to weave. Wood whittler demonstrates his craft in the second one.
One space small building built in 1964 is called “pravarelis” with equipped fireplace for cooking food, animal feed, brewing beer and smoking meat. Somebody used “pravarelis” for storing vegetables.

Forge including tens of small smithery tools of the end of XIX c. from Rokiskis d. Bareisiai vill. was moved to museum in 1965. The old craft of Lithuanian village revives in an educational program “Mine father was a forger” (originally:„Mano tevelis buvo kalvelis“).
Visitors of the museum can get acquainted with economy of XIX c. having visited smoking cottage brought here from Utena d. Varniskiai vill. Span roof made of straw three little windows shutting with little lags, inside walls blackened of smokes, plenty of wooden tools, furniture and other economy required things create authentic environment of XIX c. rustic home. Here milling is preceded using two querns, linseed is grinded in a bowl and a target of the old working tools is acknowledged here. All this and many other things can be tried in educational program “Childhood of forefather” (originally: Proseneliu vaikyste“).
Instead of the above mentioned buildings wooden cemetery chapel mentioned with dates 1820 and 1851 stands in the park.

Stockyard with the only Lithuanian exposition of crib visiting whole year was brought and put here in 1970.
